Gear Review: MSR Evo Ascent Snowshoes

I use these snowshoes all winter, and can’t say enough good things about them. They are virtually indestructible, and have never failed me after many hard miles in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I’ve seen lots of other snowshoes fail, and the MSR’s don’t really have a failure point that would render them useless like other models. I carry the field service kit with me just in case a strap breaks, but even if one did and I was without the kit, they will still function and you can take one of the other straps to replace on if it did fail. They can also be used as a shovel in an emergency. The televator is so extremely helpful on steep trails, keeping your foot level even when ascending a very steep slope, and the aggressive crampons do well with ice crusted ledges.

Currently they are on sale for $159.89 at REI!

All-terrain traction combines with MSR’s new, ber-secure PosiLock AT bindings and energy-saving Televator heel lifts to let the Evo Ascent snowshoes take you anywhere you want (or need) to go. The rugged traction of our UniBody decks and Pivot Crampons deliver top-notch security, while Modular Flotation tails allow a single pair of snowshoes to provide flotation across a broad range of snow conditions.
